Why?
I wanted to help people like me find good books to read. I love to read, but I'm quite sensitive to content.
I remember when I was a teenager, I could walk into a bookstore, browse the shelves, read a few pages, and buy a book without too much worry that I'd have to stop reading it because of inappropriate content. I miss those days! Lately, I feel like I've been returning too many books to the library unfinished or unread because I didn't have a heads-up of questionable content.
The purpose of this blog is to help readers find books they can enjoy without the fear of excessive profane language marring the message, a surprise sex scene spoiling the story, or graphic violence polluting the plot.

What?
Thanks for checking out my blog. I hope you enjoy your visit!
The Better Book Bureau is a blog that focuses on reviewing and recommending engaging and appropriate books. The books reviewed on this blog vary in genre and audience, so I hope you're able to find a helpful recommendation no matter where your interests lie!
Now, remember how I mentioned I stop reading a book if it gets to be too much for me? Because of that, I can't always provide a full, itemized list of content in a book. The purpose of this blog is to promote appropriate books--not provide an extensive "do not read" list (though I reserve the right to include some reviews of my "did not finish" list).
Here's some clarification on one more thing: I understand and respect that individuals and families have a right to decide what sort of content they think is okay and not-so-okay to read. I'm not going to sit here and lecture anyone on why one person's standard is right or wrong, but neither will I apologize for my own standards.
As a general rule, I try to promote books that I'd be comfortable listening to with another person--my husband, my children, my parents, my friends, my church leaders--within earshot. That said, there are some exceptions, like books with more mature themes than I'd want a child listening to. But I'll try to be quite open about how I felt about the books I write about, and I will clearly mark any spoilers!

Who?
I'm Krista! I have loved to read for as long as I can remember. I read a variety of genres, but I'll often cycle through phases when I favor one genre over another. I graduated with my bachelor's degree in English language and minors in editing and TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages); I have my master's degree in TESOL, as well. I also have a lot of experience in (and love for) writing and editing.
When?
This blog was started in 2021. Because life is busy, I don't have a set schedule for publishing reviews. You're welcome to contact me if you'd like to be notified of new reviews!
